Hey Rory, What's Your Story?

(Sing along in the tune of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Theme Song): Well this is a story all about how My life got flipped turned upside down And I like to take a minute, just sit right there I'll tell you all about how I moved from Texas to England and back here. In West Hamilton, I was born but not raised, Out in Plano and Reading is where I spent most of my days. Okay, I can't explain my whole story through the Fresh Prince soundtrack, so let me elaborate: I was born in Hamilton Ontario on March 14th, 1994, to the most kind and giving individuals, Mike and Danette, and a wonderful older brother named Jarrett. They made me who I am today. My family and I spent about three and-a-half years here in Canada, until we moved to Plano, Texas. We spent almost four years there in three different homes. Things to do and see in Hamilton

People make fun of Hamilton a lot. They say it's all factories, that it's ugly, that it's a little "sketchy." Well, I am here to prove that those ideas are dead  wrong . Hamilton is a beautiful , vibrant city with heaps and heaps to offer. Let me start with the nature: 1. Waterfalls - Hamilton is actually considered the waterfall capital of the world, with over 100 waterfalls and cascades, all here in our city! You can't consider that ugly. 2. Princess Point - An absolutely beautiful area in the west end of Hamilton. There are trails around the waterfront, and I've seen all sorts of animals there including deer, fish, geese, ducks, and fox. It's also a fantastic place to go for a picnic or watch the sunset.  3. The Bruce Trail - Canada's oldest and longest footpath goes through Hamilton. It's a great hike, and you can catch a glimpse of some of the waterfalls mentioned above as well! Healthy meals to bring to school or work

Eating healthy is always difficult when you're on the go. But, if you take the time to meal prep once or twice or a week, maintaining a healthy diet can be much more manageable. In this post, I'll give examples of what I bring to work and school, the majority of them being healthy. For when I'm in a rush, I have meals that were made up in a big pot, portioned out, and stuck in the freezer. These are an absolute  lifesaver, and consist of things like chili, different types of soup, and even meatloaf. One day, when you have a few hours to spare, get your ingredients, make a huge pot or pan, and then portion them out and freeze them. From just a few hours of work, you can have about 30 meals of chili to put in the freezer. Granted, I do have an extra giant freezer in my basement which really comes in handy here. This method could be tricky with limited freezer space. But, if you've got the space, frozen meals are fantastic for days when you're pressed for time. You c...

Time to Deck the Halls!

Looking back on my thoughts about Christmas as a child, it's so funny to see how my outlook has changed. When I was little, I wouldn't be able to get to sleep at night because I was so excited about the gifts I would be receiving the next morning. What will my parents get me? What will my grandparents get me? Most importantly - what will Santa get me?! It was all about the magic of receiving gifts. Nowadays, Christmas is still all about the magic, but the intangible magic. The satisfaction you get from finding or making the most fitting, perfect present for a loved one; and happiness you feel when you see them open that gift; the quality time you get to spend with friends and family members you haven't seen in a while, and the general warm, cozy feeling that the holiday gives you. You start to see the value in giving, rather than receiving. In high school, my friends and I used to always do a Secret Santa gift exchange, and spend about $30 or so on one another. The past...

The importance of exercise and healthy eating

The first 21 years of my life, I was basically a sloth. Whenever I could, I would sleep until the afternoon, get up to eat something (that was usually unhealthy, like pizza) for "breakfast," and then go back to bed to take a nap. I was constantly lazy, moody and unmotivated. Towards the end of my undergrad, I decided that something had to be done. I couldn't wake up for class (not even my 11 AM ones), I couldn't get through a simple assignment without a nap, and I was barely scraping by in school. At the time, I didn't really believe the idea that exercising and eating healthily would actually make you feel better. My thoughts were more like: I love pizza, so eating pizza will make me feel better! Or: eating a bunch of leaves will never fill me up, but a big bowl of pasta will! Why I'm scared for the future of the United States

With everything that's been going on politically in the past couple years in the U.S., I've found myself harboring a lot of anger, resentment, and frustration towards the country. I've really felt the need to direct these opinions and emotions somewhere, and this seems like the perfect platform to do so. Politics are always a heated topic, and I understand that individuals reading this post may not agree or approve of what I have to say, but that's quite alright because that's exactly what this piece of writing is: MY very own personal opinion. Although my anger is stemming mainly from the idea that a country actually elected someone as erratic and narrow-minded as Donald Trump, this post is actually going to focus more on what's been going on with the Supreme Court, specifically the decision to confirm Brett Kavanaugh.
